Copper LPBF decision aid

Pure copper or CuCrZr?

Translate application priorities into a defensible starting material choice. The result is a screening recommendation—not a substitute for validated material data, build trials, or customer specifications.

Why this result

    Resolve before release

Pure copper tends to lead whenconductivity dominates and structural duty is limited.
CuCrZr tends to lead whenstrength, wear, or thermal-cycle stability justify a qualified heat-treatment route.

For a project-specific feasibility review, send geometry, target properties, duty cycle, and inspection requirements through the Copper3DP RFQ page.

      How to use the result

      Decision boundary

The selector compares relative priorities. It does not assign guaranteed conductivity, hardness, yield strength, fatigue life, or allowable temperature. Those values depend on powder chemistry, machine, parameter set, density, orientation, heat treatment, test method, and specimen geometry.

      Minimum validation package

Confirm chemistry and material condition, coupon orientation, density/NDT method, conductivity method and temperature, mechanical test direction, surface condition, dimensional allowances, and the exact thermal history before freezing the material choice.

Limitation: this tool is an early engineering screen. Safety-critical, pressure, flight, medical, nuclear, or regulated applications require the governing code, customer approval, qualified procedures, and application-specific evidence.
